Flying In: You
can fly to the San Francisco (SFO), Oakland (OAK) or San Jose (SJC)
airport, but the San Francisco airport will be the easiest and most
manageable. You can pick up the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) right at
SFO and take it to the Powell Street station at the corner of Powell
and Market Streets. This station is a 3-4 block walk from the office.
Or you can take a shuttle van from the SFO airport to any downtown
hotel for $17. There are many of these vans waiting right outside the
airport - you don't need a reservation. A taxi from the SFO airport is
about $45. If
you are flying in it is best not to try to cut things too close. Planes
can run late and medical offices can run late! So allow plenty of time.
The airport is only a 20-25 minute drive from the office, but the
traffic situation can be unreliable. It
would be best not to rent a car because parking it in the city is
expensive (up to $40/day), navigating the city is difficult for a new
comer, and the mass transit system is so good that you won't need it. Public Transportation in the City (MUNI): San
Francisco has an excellent public transportation system called MUNI
which includes street cars, light rail, buses, electric trollies and
cable cars. Everything you need to know about MUNI, including links to
routes, etc can be found here.
The BART station mentioned above is also a stop for MUNI - the
Powell/Stockton station. Get out on the Powell St side and walk
straight up Powell Street to Sutter and then make a right on Sutter.
The office building will be on your left.
